Spring Cleaning Tips

S P R I N G. A lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be…

Have you noticed a change in the past few days? Possibly you haven’t reached for your slippers and robe as soon as you get out of bed, or the blooming flowers in your garden bed. That’s right, it’s spring and it’s time to drag out the barbecue as we’ll all soon be wearing t-shirts and thongs once again.

Spring cleaning: it’s probably not a phrase that fills you with excitement, but if you follow our guide you’ll find that spring cleaning becomes a summer breeze. Don’t forget to leave things to soak, now we aren’t talking about leaving crusty pans in the sink for a week, but some deep cleaning jobs will require time for the chemicals to work. Lastly, work high to low, dust falls down anyways so if you start with the floor you’ll end up redoing the job.

Kitchen:

  • Your FRIDGE – You probably wipe down your fridge’s interior shelving on a regular basis, but don’t forget about the rest. Check the expiry date of products, pop out the door shelves and draws and wash with soapy warm water to get rid of food bacteria and spillage
  • Your OVEN – If you clean and maintain your oven on a regular basis it won’t take as much time and elbow grease as it would if you were to leave mess baking on for a while. Soak metal runners and shelves in warm water with dishwasher detergent. Wipe down oven with warm, soapy water
  • Your COOKTOP – Ceramic and induction cooktops can be hard work, but with the right tools the job’s made much easier. Poor Jif Cream Cleanser and use a microfiber cloth to scrub off any grime and use a scraper to scrape any baked-on messes
  • Your RANGEHOOD – Refer to manual if your particular model’s filter can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning, if not soak in warm, soapy water
  • Your CUPBOARDS – It’s time to ditch any items you no longer need or use and re-arrange areas that have become cluttered. Also a great time to go through your pantry, check the expiry dates and re-arrange your pantry. (e.g. move items with earlier expiry dates to the front to remind yourself to use them up).

Living Room:

  • Your CUSHION COVERS – Give the covers a wash, or take them outside to dust them and air out in the sun
  • Your RUGS & LOUNGES – To give your carpets, rugs and lounges a deeper clean, use a carpet cleaner and deodoriser
  • Your AIR CONDITIONERS – Refer to manual if your particular model’s filter can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning, if not soak in warm, soapy water. Wipe down internal unit with warm, soapy water
  • Your TV UNITS – Wipe down electronic equipment and draws with warm, soapy water

Bedrooms:

  • Your MATTRESS – Use a carpet cleaner and deodoriser to help with the deeper vacuum clean and rotate your mattress
  • Your WARDROBE – It’s also time to ditch any clothes you no longer need and decide what needs to be discarded, donated or stored items you no longer need or use and re-arrange areas that have become cluttered

Bathrooms and Laundry

  • Your CUPBOARDS – Re-arrange cupboards and draws that have become cluttered and wipe down with warm, soapy water
  • Your BATHTUB, SHOWER, SINKS AND TOILET – Use your bathroom cleaner to give your bathtub, showers, sinks and toilet a thorough clean and remove any calcium build up
  • Your WASHING MACHINE – Unless you’re hoping to make money from some kind of illegal gambling on appliance racing, you want to make sure you’re using your washing machine and dryer as well as possible so they don’t chase each other across the floor when they’re off-balance. Run a cleaning cycle on its hottest cycle with a bit of vinegar and detergent to clear out s crud. Wipe away mould deposits with hot soapy water.
